Free Amazon Prime for students [25 Aug 2010|05:24am]

theonlytime
Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).

Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

Would anyone who's worked for this as a tutor be willing to share their experiences with this program with me? I'm interested in applying but am not sure about whether I would want to.

Thanks!

Final Exam PSA [11 Mar 2010|06:31pm]

rosalyn
Do people really think that the final exam schedule is secret info only given out during class?  I've gotten so many emails from classmates asking when our finals are...  FYI, guys, the finals have been scheduled and posted for over a year, and they aren't going to change all of a sudden.

In fact, the exam schedule for next year is posted, so you can know your finals schedule before you even register for classes.

Hi there DePaul folk, I would really like to go to an upcoming Blue Demons game, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to get to Rosemont by public transportation. Is there a shuttle, should I split a cab with people? It's a freaking hike!

Where do people go for decent vegan fare by the Lincoln Park campus? I usually have about an hour between when I get to Lincoln Park from work and evening classes, and I'm looking for a place I can get a substantial meal but not feel awkward eating by myself.

psychology, sociology, public policy depts [06 Mar 2009|08:20pm]

rosalyn
I am switching majors and the main contenders of the hour are psychology, sociology, and public policy studies.

Does anyone out there have a strong opinion about the quality of any of these programs, departments, or faculty?

How different are the sociology and psychology departments/programs (I mean at DePaul specifically, not the studies in general)?

Are there a lot of prerequisites for any of these majors - is it like bio where required prereqs are offered once a year or is it like communications where nothing is a prerequisite for anything else and classes are offered all the time?

I only just started looking at public policy today, so am still not totally clear on the focus of the program.  Plz tell me more about it if you know.

Any info is appreciated, and thanks.chicago_college

Sketch Comedy, Rad! [06 Mar 2009|08:03pm]

_pianississimo

SNL can kiss our ass.  Sure, they've got Andy Samberg and a bunch of other people who will be forgotten when their stint on the show is done, but they can't hold a candle to--
IT'S GOOD FOR YOU!
The only sketch show in Chicago to feature the following:
-- mass murder
-- Kanye West
-- police brutality
-- an evil puppet
-- tasteless songs
-- split personalities
-- random dance numbers
-- the good sense to not keep running forever like SOME sketch shows we could mention in this city *cough*secondcity*cough*

Thursday, March 12th, at 8 pm -- The LAST performance of It's Good for You!.  Tickets are $10, available at the Gorilla Tango box office or online at www.gorillatango.com.
Gorilla Tango Theatre

MA Journalism [03 Nov 2008|04:45pm]

dandyda11
Hi! I am currently a senior at the University of Michigan and am interested in getting my MA in Journalism at DePaul. Any opinions about the program? Also, I don't have a 3.0 and was wondering if they do admit students who don't meet that suggested minimum?

Thanks for your help!

microwave [21 Aug 2008|02:26am]

rosalyn
I feel like I've asked this before, but I still don't know the answer:

Is there a microwave available for student use anywhere at LPC?  I want to bring my own lunches (I don't live on campus) but I don't know of anywhere I can reheat it.  Thanks.

Hi there!
My name is Darlene, and I'm a potential transfer applicant to DePaul's Lincoln Park campus, and I have some questions and I was hoping that some students would help me answer.

I'm an art major and the school that I left behind was the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, another fine Chicago school that actually shares a bookstore with DePaul's loop campus! My reason for leaving was that I found that the SAIC lacked any sort of community - something I should have seen coming. It was just too many artists in the big city.
I'd like to know from anyone who might be able to answer... would you call your art department "cozy" (and does that make sense to anyone besides me?) ? I guess after I found that I disliked a bigger art school so much I'm turning to regular universities trying to find smaller art programs where the art students and their professors are able to actually able to get to know each other over the months and years, rather than just take that one class together and then move on. Maybe I just miss High School and being with the same people and being able to see how everyone would change- but I really appreciated those kinds of experiences and I think it's beneficial towards an art program and I'd like it in the one that I go into.

Also, I am aware of the opportunity to come to the city on certain days and apply in front of an admissions counselor person with your transcripts and they admit your or not on the spot. Is there anyone here who has done this or know of anyone who has? What is there to say about that experience?
Last semester was my first semester back from the SAIC and I was very stressed and the anxiety caused a sort of dormant seizure disorder (genetic, apparently) to awaken and it caused me to drop all the classes I was taking at the community college (since I couldn't be driving, you know)- would it make more sense for me to apply in person so I could explain that gap?

Please, all opinions and advice is very appreciated!

genderpac

The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition is pleased to announce the release of its 2008 GENIUS Survey in partnership with Ernst & Young. GenderPAC works to ensure that classrooms, communities and workplaces are safe for everyone to learn, grow and succeed.

The Gender Equality National Index for Universities & Schools (GENIUS), GenderPAC’s most recent effort to end discrimination and promote awareness, encourages colleges and universities to recognize the benefits of a GenderSAFEtm campus - supportive equitable and protective for all students. Choosing to participate in GENUIS sends a strong public statement that bullying or discriminating based on the race, sex or gender of a student, faculty, or staff member is not tolerated at your institution

Fill out the survey at: www.gpac.org/GENIUS2008survey, and make sure that we have data for as many schools as possible. Your voice will help us continue to work towards a safe and welcoming environment for every student.

*While we greatly appreciate the interest taken in GENIUS by students, staff, and faculty at academic institutions outside of the United States, at this time GENIUS is only able to track schools based in the U.S.

Is anyone even still watching this community...?

So, uh, hey. I'm an Honors student trying to figure out what science course I want to take to fulfill my lab requirement. I'll post the list of accepted courses in a cut below. If anyone has any comment on any of the courses (good, bad, neutral), I'd really like to hear about it.

stand back, everyone - I'm going to try SCIENCE!Collapse )

Thanks~
